Magic Bottles Walkthrough: Master the Art of Color Sorting

Empty Bottles Are Your Best Friend

Let me share something that changed my Magic Bottles game: empty bottles are precious. New players make the mistake of filling up every available space as soon as they see a matching opportunity. Big mistake.

That empty bottle isn't just spare room—it's breathing room. It's your lifeline when things get messy. Good runs come from keeping that flexibility as long as possible, especially when similar colors get buried under the wrong stacks.

Look Before You Pour

This sounds obvious, but you'd be surprised how many people start pouring whatever looks correct in the moment instead of thinking strategically. A technically legal move can still be a bad move if it traps a useful color under two others.

Before your first few pours, scan the entire board. Really look at it. Which colors appear most? Which ones are buried? What would happen if you pour from bottle A to bottle B?

The Three-Pour Rule

When colors are split across different bottles, try to think two or three pours ahead. Where will that color go next? Does this open up options or close them? That small mindset shift changes everything once the layouts get crowded.

Use Empty Bottles to Reorganize

Don't just use empty bottles to store leftovers. Use them to reorganize. Sometimes you need to pour a color into an empty bottle not because it matches, but because you need that color out of the way to access what's underneath it.

Don't Rush the Easy Matches

When you see an easy match—same color on top of two bottles—resist the urge to grab it immediately. Sometimes it's better to build toward it strategically rather than clearing it the first chance you get.

When Stuck: Backtrack

If you find yourself out of moves, undo a couple steps. Often the solution requires a totally different pouring sequence than what you initially imagined. Taking two steps back often reveals the path forward.
